No one did, but the dog house was designed to keep their bodies relatively out restrained only by a meter long metal string attached to its neck. What a ridiculous design to house a dog, a pit bull at that, and inviting the animal to explore the outside world. What an insensible attitude from the dog’s owner of not employing safety measures to keep their dogs away from unsuspecting humans. This is insensitive at the highest level to think that I was not the first victim of the dog’s trigger-happy canine teeth. An old lady also fell prey to this dog a month ago while visiting her family who lived beside the house of the dog’s owner.
What a way to start September! Having gone from the Naga City Gym to check on the game proceedings of the Sports Festival on its second day, I decided to grab a bite for a late breakfast meal from my favorite “lutong bahay” along Peninsula St. Without a hint of the disaster that’s about to happen, I parked behind the car of the restaurant owner along the street. After alighting from the vehicle, the first dog tried to grab my feet but I managed to get away from the beast but I didn’t see the other one just beside the first and it slightly caught my left leg. Good thing I was wearing a maong pants on that day. The denim was severely damaged and saved substantial tissues of my delicate skin. The dog bite left a slightly lacerated skin measuring about an inch-and-a-half and a tiny scratch just below it.
There is such thing as responsible dog ownership. Aside from keeping your dogs net, healthy, strong and safe, it is also essential to think about the safety of other people (or animals) that may be a victim of your dogs’ uncivilized manners which is directly reflected from its owners. Apart from the trauma one gets from a dog bite and attack, the hassle of observing the dog’s condition together with the victim is an excruciating experience. Last time I checked, the dog is still there but just the same, there is still that small opening from where the beast can peek out and the location of the dog house is still beside the street!
I hate needles. Last time I remembered me being injected on a needle for medication was about 16 years ago when I had a major operation. If not for necessity and convenience of the operation, I would not allow a needle to penetrate my body. I hate needles because as tiny as they are, I’m terrified of thinking how to handle the pain when it is punched into my skin. There’s only one way to punch a needle but the pain seems to be different and severe depending on the person’s (doing the punching) expertise and mood swing. It’s always a risk on the patients part since you cannot commission the same person whom you trusted to do the injection thing for you. Most of the time, it will be done by different persons, person whom you don’t really know and persons don’t give a damn on what you feel.
Who let the dogs out? Damn. I will miss the happenings in the upcoming fiesta celebration. The Doctor strongly advises that I stay away from alcohol until my medication is complete by October 1. I have never had a celebration without holding at least a bottle of beer in my hand and it kept me wondering until now, how the hell will I celebrate when all my friends are popping bottle after bottle? I guess I have to find a better way to celebrate, this damn stupid bite will not get the best of me, fiesta celebration will continue even without beers or alcohol. There are still stories to share, concerts to watch and intentions to pray for. This is for our Ina, Our Lady of Peñafrancia. I say no beer this fiesta.
