The Old Reliable

Just like basketball, we have possessions under our disposal from which we consider as our old reliable. When everything else is gone, we turn to them, when it’s crunch time, we field them in, when it’s winning time, we let them take the last shot.

I have activated the service of my old reliable motorbike. 47 days after the accident, the thing is back on the road! Battle tested, ever reliable and road weary, the beast cruised the highway to Naga with no hesitation. Just like the old times, it can take you at attitudes you’ve never seen before.

Driving the thing is like unlearning and learning life’s lessons. You’ll never know when mishap would happen but you got to be ready for it, avoid it if you can and learn from your mistake if disaster comes. One has to be open, cautious and ready to take the risk.

The old reliable has taken me approximately 383,331 miles from the streets of the city to the mountain trails of Caramoan Peninsula. Through thick and thin, rain or shine, flat tire and empty gasoline tank, we both endure each others company. It has become an extension of myself less the sleek look and human expressions either way one can relate.

I’ll drive and will keep on driving until I cannot ride. Steven Tyler says “Life’s a journey not a destination..” We need to keep moving, we need to keep driving. Life is beautiful viewed from the steering wheel (or whatever they call it). Driving is moving forward, there might be times when you need to slow down and do the reverse, but sooner not later you’ll find yourself on the road and moving forward again. Driving is more on moving the direction one is facing and less of the other way around.

Fast or slow it doesn’t matter. You’ll get there eventually. Have no fear.
