Rediscovering the Hot Spring Capital of the Philippines

Approximately six hours away from Bicol going to Manila lies the Hot Spring Capital of the Philippines. The proud City of Calamba, Laguna, the birth place of JPR our National Hero. Among the best Hot Spring Resorts in Calamba are located mostly at Barangay Pansol where almost every corner has a private pool designed to satisfy the needs of the swimming public. Resorts from contemporary to modern designs abound at the area and almost all of the vacant lots along the highway are now being transformed into a resort.

The Hot Springs in Laguna they say has therapeutic healing powers as the fresh, clear and pure hot springs below the surface runs free from Mount Makiling. Residents need not excavate deep holes to find the root of the hot spring, the water is so abundant that hand digging (a figure of speech) can lead one to the purest hot springs of all. No wonder, the place is visited by tourists, particularly those from Manila, to escape the contaminated environment of highly urbanized places and experience the beauty of nature through the hot springs of Pansol.

Pansol has been our favorite getaway years ago when I was still in Manila. My friends Atty. Varela, Mau Banaag, Phen and the late Joey Aberilla have travelled this side of the country several times on weekends to recharge and veer away from the pressures of our daily office works. Since the place is just over an hour drive from Manila, this is the most accessible, convenient and beautiful place to unwind.

The Cluster 9 Team of STI Colleges Naga and Legazpi have chosen Pansol as our rendezvous before proceeding to Enchanted Kingdom for the 27th Anniversary Celebration of STI. Among the many resorts in the area, we have chosen to stay at the quiet suburbs of Solimar del Pansol and stayed at one of the coolest resorts of the village. Amenities such as billiards, videoke, and other utilities are provided for guests to better enjoy their stay.

Contingents and their coordinators frolicked at the pool all day long unmindful of the battle they have to face the following day. Today, we wanted to free our spirits, enjoy the hot spring experience and appreciate the beauty of nature. A short program was prepared after dinner to remind the contingents of our goal and the reason why we are here. As early as day one, we have set the goal and that is to reach the National Finals, now that we did, there’s only one task left tomorrow. Give it our best shot and enjoy the experience.
