Take Two: Enchanted Kingdom

For the second straight year now, STI College Naga students have reached the Grand National Finals of the Battle of the Bands, Hataw Sayaw and Miss STI Beauty Search to be held at the Enchanted Kingdom on August 27, 2010. After successfully outperforming their counterparts from STI College Legazpi during the Cluster Meet last Saturday, STI College Naga emerged on top of the medal tally with three Championships against the two of STI College Legazpi for the Pop Idol and Mister STI.

The group of ragtag musicians all on their first year in college, Jules Bedural, Peter Boreta, David Pavia, Patrick Angeles and Vince Gabuyo, collectively known as Noise Box performed “Umagang Kay Ganda” a song originally performed by Pops Fernandez and decades later popularized by Bamboo. The incredible voice and style of Vince Gabuyo has earned him the mark as the Bamboo of Naga with the face of Chito Miranda.

2nd Avenues’ Raymond Martin, Maribel Contado, Edgar Delmiguez, Jason Apring and John Morales electrified the stage in the Hataw Sayaw segment of the event. Their counterparts from STI College Legazpi gave them a tough fight in the beginning but the artistry, coordination and choreography of the group propelled them to garner 91.4% from the Judges as against the 85.8% of their rival. The victory is ever more sweeter for the groups’ freestyler Edgar Delmiguez, as he was celebrating his birthday on the same day, the championship trophy according to him is the best birthday gift he has ever received.

The pride of Travel and Tourism Service Program, Wendy Pan ruled the Miss STI Pageant. She literally took home all the minor awards from the production number to the evening gown competition. She was the hands down choice for the Miss STI Award. Wendy topped all five judges and accumulated an 88.4% approval rate against the 82.8% of her STI College Legazpi counterpart. Joining Wendy in the National Finals is STI College Legazpi’s Jose Bosch, a natural heartthrob and the runaway winner in the Cluster 9 Meet. Together, the duo will try to outstand their other National Competitors as they begin their quest to give Cluster 9, the Bicol Region, with its first Mr. & Ms. STI Grand National Finals Title.
